Background of the Study

Managerial competencies refer to the skills, knowledge, and behaviors that enable managers to lead effectively and drive business success. These competencies include leadership skills, decision-making abilities, problem-solving expertise, and strategic planning (Adewale & Chukwuma, 2024). In the telecommunications sector, where competition is intense, managerial competencies play a critical role in sustaining growth, improving customer satisfaction, and achieving organizational goals.

MTN Nigeria, one of the country’s leading telecommunications companies, operates in a fast-evolving industry characterized by technological advancements and market disruptions. The effectiveness of its managerial team in Plateau State significantly influences business performance, service delivery, and employee productivity (Olu & Hassan, 2023).

This study explores the relationship between managerial competencies and business success at MTN Nigeria, Plateau State. It aims to identify the key managerial competencies required for sustaining a competitive advantage and enhancing operational efficiency.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the importance of managerial competencies, many organizations face leadership gaps that hinder business growth. At MTN Nigeria, managers may struggle with adapting to market changes, handling customer expectations, and implementing innovative strategies (Okafor & Adeyemi, 2024). Without strong managerial competencies, businesses risk inefficiencies, high employee turnover, and declining profitability.

While studies have explored the impact of leadership on business performance, there is limited research on how specific managerial competencies influence business success in the telecommunications sector. This study addresses this gap by investigating managerial effectiveness in MTN Nigeria, Plateau State.
